Our Story
We met in October 2023, over a board game night thanks to mutual friends—one of those casual evenings that didn’t seem like it would change much. But it turns out, it changed everything.
The game was Ticket to Ride. You were about to win—calm, confident, clearly on your way to victory. And I decided to make what I thought was a bold, strategic move… I sabotaged the game and ended it early.
I thought it was hilarious.
You did not.
In fact, you were so upset that you left that night “hating” me—which, looking back, is probably not the strongest start to a love story.
But somehow, I got a second chance almost immediately. The very next day, we ended up seeing each other again—this time making dumplings together. And somewhere between folding wrappers and laughing over our questionable technique, things felt different. Easier. Like maybe I wasn’t completely a lost cause.
Then, just a couple of days later, we had dinner with friends at Phnom Penh. By then, something had already started to shift. What began as an awkward, slightly competitive first meeting was quickly becoming something we both wanted to keep showing up for.
Within the next couple of weeks, we slowly started spending more time together—just the two of us instead of in a group. And while we hadn’t quite said anything out loud yet, our friends definitely noticed. They started getting suspicious…
After a couple of months, in December 2023, I finally asked you to be my girlfriend. You were a little skeptical at first—which, to be fair, made sense given how we started—but you said yes.
And that “okay” ended up meaning everything.
What started as a little bit of rivalry turned into conversations, then friendship, and eventually something much more. And somewhere along the way, I managed to work my way off your “most hated” list.
Looking back, it’s kind of perfect. Our story didn’t start with a fairytale moment—it started with a questionable decision during a game of Ticket to Ride, followed by dumplings, dinners, and a lot of time spent choosing each other more and more.
Turns out, even the worst moves can lead to the best journeys.
